AIKIDO: A modern Japanese martial art founded by UESHIBA MORIHEI in the 1930s. Aikido, which literally means "the way of harmony with the KI," developed from the medieval Japanese fighting method of JUJUTSU. Aikido teaches how to use an opponent's energy to one's own advantage and employs a wide range of joint locks to hold an opponent (See also Aikido article).
